Lige Henry "Sonny" Mathews of Scott, Arkansas, passed July 10, 2021; this Christian man lived 82 years.

Born June 13, 1939 in Reydell, Arkansas to Joe Henry and Beulah (Todd) Mathews, he attended North Little Rock's New Life Ministries Pentecostal Church. After retiring from Harvest Foods, Sonny pursued his hobbies of farming, hunting, fishing and never missing a game of dominoes with James Waddles, Benny Pate and Harold Henderson. Known for growing fruits and vegetables -- especially watermelons, this selfless, giving man of his word cherished spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.

Preceded in death by his parents; and sisters, Elsie Bates, Annie Seaborn and Lucille Curbow.

Survivors include his beloved wife of 61 years, Martha Whitfield Mathews; sons, Jimmy (Teresia), Jerry, Morris and Joe Henry (Maggie) Mathews; grandchildren, Cory and Elijah Sellers, Nathan Mathews, Kimberly Mathews-Nugent, Joshua Mathews, Heather Mathews and Marlee Mathews Harrod; 16 great grandchildren; 1 great great grandchild; brother, Bobby Matthews; sisters, Ruby Cunningham Haller and Holly Persons; and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.

Visitation at Roller-Owens Funeral Home, 5509 JFK Blvd., occurs Thursday, July 15 from 6-8 p.m.

A private graveside service for the family will be held Friday.
