William K. "Bill" Van Buskirk, age 68, of Marion, died unexpectedly on Saturday, July 10, 2021, at home following a brief illness.
On April 12, 1953, Bill was born in Marion, Ohio, the youngest of ten children of the late Guy Raymond and Pauline Barbara (Lotz) Van Buskirk. He was raised in Kenton, Ohio, until his father passed away and they moved back to Marion. He graduated from Marion Harding High School in the class of 1971.
Shortly following high school, Bill enlisted to serve his beloved country in the US Navy, a veteran of the Vietnam War. He served as a photographer aboard the USS Kitty Hawk Naval supercarrier.
Upon his honorable discharge, Bill returned home to Marion, where he quickly landed a job at the Ohio Edison Electric Company. He worked as a meter reader and did meter repairs during his thirty plus years with the company. He also was a member of the Marion Moose Lodge and one of the AmVets Posts in Marion.
One of Bill's favorite pastimes was going fishing with his son and three grandsons. He also enjoyed working in his garden, growing vegetables, and taking care of his yard. He loved going on little roads trips, which often revolved around picking restaurants or going to Amish Country. He also was an avid Hot Wheels car collector and often read his Bible.
Very jovial and outgoing, Bill made fast friends everywhere he went. He had a great sense of humor, always joking around and getting a good laugh out of everyone. He also had a heart of gold, and would do anything to help if he could.
He will be missed by his son, Guy Raymond Van Buskirk; three grandsons: Ethan, Jordan and Brandon Van Buskirk; one sister, Nanette (Robert) Blevins of Marion; former spouse, Linda Van Buskirk LaTour; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Including his parents, Bill was preceded in death by eight siblings: Carl Rizer, Elda Hoch, Wilma Jacobs, Margaret Willis, Marie Fields, Robert Van Buskirk, Nelson Van Buskirk, and David Van Buskirk.
