Funeral services for Charles W. Herring, 90, of Lubbock, will be 3 p.m. Monday, Nov. 19, 2007, at George Price Funeral Chapel, with Jim Patrick officiating. Burial will follow in the City of Levelland Cemetery. Visitation will be today, Nov. 18, 2007, from 3 - 5 p.m., at George Price Funeral Home. He left this earth on Friday, Nov. 16, 2007.

Charles was born on March 9, 1917, to Marcus Eugene and Effie Mae Herring, in Ingleside Community, Young County, Texas. He graduated from Hitson High School in 1934. He continued his education at Hamlin High School, graduating in 1935, and he also attended college in Arlington.

He married Wauldean Pope on Sept. 3, 1938, in Hamlin. He joined the Army in December 1944, serving in the Pacific in WWII. He worked for Shell Oil Co. for 25 years and continued to work in the oil industry, retiring in 1983. He was a 32nd degree Free Mason.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Clifford, Howard, Lawrence, Kermit, and Merrill; and sisters, Alma Carter, Winnie Story, and Dorothy Townley.
