Gary Lee "Gritty" Gritten, age 81, of Odebolt, Iowa, passed away on Saturday, June 5, 2021, at the Odebolt Specialty Care of Odebolt, Iowa.

A Visitation will be held from 2:00 p.m. to 3:45 p.m., following with a Prayer Service from 3:45 p.m. to 4:00 p.m., with Pastor Ken Miller Officiating, Saturday, June 19, 2021, at the Christensen-Van Houten Funeral Home of Odebolt, Iowa. After services and blessings have taken place, all are welcome to join on a Celebration of Life Last Ride at 4:00 p.m. departing from the Christensen-Van Houten Funeral Home of Odebolt, Iowa, in honor of Gary "Gritty" Gritten. The Christensen-Van Houten Funeral Home of Odebolt, Iowa, is in charge of the funeral arrangements.

Gary Lee "Gritty" Gritten, age 81, passed away on June 5, 2021, at the Odebolt Specialty Care of Odebolt, Iowa. He was born on April 19, 1940, in Spencer, IA, the son of George Virgil Gritten and Grace Edna (DeFrain) Gritten. Gary attended Spencer Community School and United Trade School in Kansas City, MO.

Gary met and wed Margaret Jensen in 1956. To this union, he had sons Rodney and Lance. He met the love of his life, Sherlynn Rae "Sherry" Grove in 1965. They wed in 1966 at the Silver Creek United Methodist Church in Galva, Iowa and he gained stepchildren Christine Baker and Barry Baker. With Sherry, he had sons Jason Michael and Matthew David.

In addition to serving on the Odebolt Fire Department, he worked at Mell's Gas Station, Band M Motors and Midwest Industries. Sherry and Gary owned and operated Gary's Cafe in Arthur, Iowa, for several years then opened the Frontier Drive-In in Odebolt for two years. Following this, Gary started his trucking career.

Gary enjoyed spending time with family and friends, along with riding his trike, tinkering around with vehicles and pranking/joking people. He was a member of the United Methodist Church of Odebolt.

He is survived by his sons Lance Hunt and Rodney Hunt both of Hampton, IA, Jason (Janet) Gritten and Matthew Gritten both of Odebolt, IA and Barry Baker of Manning, IA; 9 grandchildren: Nicole Gritten, Jessy (Travis) Eneboe, Kyle Baker, Sara Gritten, Izraell Gritten, Aavalon Gritten, Brooklyn Gritten, Bailey Gritten and Zander Gritten along with 3 great-granddaughters: Aleah Gritten, Ameara Eneboe and Adeline Eneboe. He also leaves behind many cherished nieces and nephews.

Gary was preceded in death by his wife Sherry; his parents George and Grace Gritten; daughter Christine Baker; siblings; and granddaughter Destiney.
