Joseph Edward Doherty, 91, Lower Sackville, passed away May 20th 2021 at the QE II HSC VG Site Centennial Building. Born Halifax, NS he was the son of the late Dennis Francis and Mary Elizabeth Emberley He is survived by wife Hilda Dorothy (Cullen) Doherty, daughters, Linda Marie Doherty, Diana Louise Doherty ; sons, Joseph Edward (Moira Keenan) Doherty, Terrance Michael, Monte Wood Doherty, Daniel Francis Doherty, Robert Charles Doherty and Linda Pratt Doherty ; sister, Denise (Eric) Patrick, Kelowna BC, several grandchildren great grandchildren with many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by is entire family. In lieu of flowers; donations in his name to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of NS would be gratefully appreciated. Joseph worked at the dockyard for his whole career with the Department of National Defense as an electrician lineman. He also worked evenings as a furnace repairman. His main concern was providing for his wife and six children. He was a hard-working man and he also had a humorous side to him. He loved to joke and carry on and tell stories, and was a very kind and compassionate person. He was a very generous and loving father. Joseph had the first BSA Motorcycle in Nova Scotia - a 1951. He loved motorcycles his entire life and it was his passion. He enjoyed skating in the hockey rinks as he grew up in the North of Halifax. He played softball, and he also had a small band that played on the weekends in the local dance halls. He loved to dance and he was a great partner to his wife. It was a beautiful sight to see them together. Joseph also sang "jingles" on the radio, most notably for Coca Cola.
A thrifty man who never threw anything away that he though he could fix, he would try also to fix any problem his children had, all they had to do was ask . He never said no. Sunday drives will be forever cherished. Joseph will be laid to rest in Gate of Heaven Cemetery at a later date.
