James M. Downie, age 78, of Grand Haven died Monday, December 30, 1996, at his home. He was born December 6, 1918, in Spruce, MI to William and Amanda (Rasmussen) Downie. Downie married Marjorie P. Dove on October November 6 1942 in Napoleon, Ohio.
Mr. Downie worked for Grand Haven Brass Foundry for many years, retiring in 1980. He was an avid bowler and fisherman.
He is survived by his wife Marjorie P. 'Marge'; two daughters Scherry (James) Karafa of Spring Lake and Su (Harry) Snyder of Grand Haven; two sons, James F. (Mary) Downie of Grand Haven and Rick M. (Rebecca) Downie of Lamont; 8 grandchildren; one great-grandson. Three sisters; Glayds (George) Lundamo of Hutchinson, Kansas, Dorothy Burkholder of Mt. Morris, Mich., Lorraine (Mattie) Pamalou of Fenton, Mich. Four brothers; William (Delores) Downie of Imlay City, Mich., William (Marie) Downie Spruce, Mich., Allen Downie, and Johnny (Barb) Downie both of Detroit. Preceded in death by two brothers; Everett and Norman Downie.
