History - Susan E Ellis was baptized as a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints on 23 July 1852 by Richard Treseder in the open sea at St. Helen. She was confirmed 25 July 1852 by Curtis E Bolton.
Her father was a cabinet maker and her mother had eight children. When she was eight years of age she moved to London in 1864 to come to Utah. They crossed the plains with ox teams, on the way her sister-in-law, Mary Ann Ellis was taken very sick with Mountain Fever, she had three small children which were cared for by Susan.
Many a time she has combed her hair while walking along as there was no other time to spare. She walked the whole distance as the sick woman and children rode in the wagon.
The trip thro' Emmigration Canyon will never be forgotten and the feeling of joy that was experienced when looking over the valley has alway been a great testimony to her.
Susan E Ellis was selected 1st counselor to E. C. Hanford in the 20th ward Relief Society in 1901. Was selected 1st Counselor to Margaret Romney in 1902. Was elected President of 20 Ward Relief Society 6 Feb. 1909. Was set apart 7 Mar. 1909 by Pres. R. W. Young.
