DENNIS JOHN BRADY, age 69, of Sioux Falls, SD, formerly of Luverne, died peacefully held by his family on Monday, May 7, 2018, at the Minnesota Veterans Home in Luverne. He was born June 1, 1948, in Slayton, to Emery and Luella (Lehnhoff) Brady. Denny graduated from Fulda High School in 1967. He later graduated from Jackson Vocational School as an Appliance Technician through the GI Bill. He served his country in the United States Army with the 101st Airborne Division-1st Battalion-327th Infantry-Company B during the Vietnam War. He served from January 11, 1968 to November 4, 1969, receiving two Purple Hearts and a Bronze Star. He was honorably discharged on January 1, 1972.
Denny married Linda Sue Ausen on February 5, 1972, at St. Mary Catholic Chapel in Marshall. The couple lived in various towns including Cherokee, IA, the Minneapolis area and Canby before moving to Luverne in 1974. Denny owned Brady's Refrigeration Repair, in Luverne. He was a Luverne City Carrier for the United States Postal Service for thirty four years. During that career, he walked 96,768 miles. He retired on January 1, 2010. Denny and Linda loved the outdoors and shared camping, hiking and hunting experiences with their daughters and grandchildren. Denny was very proud of his three daughters and five grandchildren. He enjoyed supporting them in their many endeavors but especially attending their sports activities and dance performances. He loved following the Minnesota Twins, Vikings and Seahawks in particular. Dennis taught his family to love God, Family and Country as he was a very proud American. He was an avid outdoorsman and hunter. He has many trophy mounts that he was proud of. Denny taught his grandchildren how to hunt and also shared his love of hunting by having his nephews out to the couples property in the Black Hills for an annual turkey hunt for several years.
He was a member of St. Catherine Catholic Church; the Knights of Columbus; Ducks Unlimited; Pheasants Forever; the National Wild Turkey Federation; the Rock Mountain Elk Federation; the Military Order of the Purple Heart Chapter 5355 in Sioux Falls, SD; the DAV; the American Legion Posts 123 & 15; the VFW Posts 2157 & 628; the Vietnam Veterans of America Post 959; and he served on the Color Guard.
Denny is survived by his wife, Linda Brady, Sioux Falls, SD; three daughters, Sonja (Jeff) Fink, Lindstrom; Sara (Tim) Vortherms, Adrian; and Stacy Kopp, Luverne; six grandchildren, Megan, Brady and Gabrielle Vortherms; and Janae, Camron and Aydon Kopp; brother, Michael (Joan) Brady, Forest, VA; four sisters, Janet (Dennis) Gillespie, Clarkston MI; Mary (Mike) Becker, LaPorte; Diane (Ron) Kirchner, Fulda; and Eileen (Doug) Hanson, Marshall; his father-in-law, Charles Ausen, Marshall; and many nieces & nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two infant brothers; and his mother-in-law, Margaret Ann "Mugsy" Ausen.

A time of fellowship will be from 4-7 pm Wednesday at the Dingmann Funeral Home in Luverne with Parish Prayers at 7 pm. Fellowship also one hour prior to the service at the church on Thursday. Funeral Mass will be 10:30 am Thursday at St. Catherine Catholic Church, in Luverne, officiated by Fr. Thomas Jennings, with full military honors provided by the Luverne American Legion & VFW. Burial of cremains will take place at a later date.
