David married Jill Floerke on Oct. 9, 1993, at Christ Lutheran Church in Spring Green, Wis.
David graduated from Mount Horeb High School in 1965. He received his Bachelor of Science degree in microbiology from the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh in 1971, where he was a member of the Sigma Pi. During his college years he proudly worked as a duck boat driver in Wisconsin Dells and as a guide at Cave of the Mounds.
David worked as a microbiologist for the UW-Madison for 18.5 years and in medical sales with VWR Scientific Products for 12 years, before his retirement.
David was fond of Wisconsin sports, golfing, fishing, storytelling, long conversations, and watching his cooking shows. He enjoyed taking trips with his wife, Jill, to northern Wisconsin and Door County but his favorite vacation spot was Key West, Fla. David liked attending Concerts on the Square and a little gambling with his wife, Jill.
Some of his proudest accomplishments were making a hole-in-one at University Ridge Golf Course on the 15th hole in 1997, visiting his homeland in Switzerland, and being a "grandpa."
David is survived by his wife, Jill (Floerke) Baertschy; son, Daniel (Natalie) Baertschy; daughter Megan Baertschy; granddaughter, Noel; siblings, Paul (Connie) Baertschy, Mark (Julie) Baertschy, James (Jenifer) Baertschy and Christine (Martin) Frame; mother-in-law, Mercille Floerke; in-laws, Linda (James) Thering, Steve (Debbie) Floerke and Stacy (Dorothy) Floerke; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Karl Baertschy; father-in-law, Ernest Floerke; and sister-in-law, Debbie Beck and her husband, Sam.
