The sad news was received here late Thursday evening of the death of Frank Mahoney a former well known Boone county boy. He had been in ill health for several years, but was not thought in a dangerous condition. His brother Ed. Mahoney of this city, had been out visiting and just left there for home the night before and on his arrival here this evening found the message announcing his death ahead of him. His wife was visiting her people in Illinois at the time and no word has been received from her yet, so it is not known whether the remains will be brought to Boone or buried in Denver. T.J. Mahoney will probably leave on No. 3 tomorrow morning for Denver to attend the funeral there or accompany the remains to Boone. The family and relatives here have the most profound sympathy of all in their terrible sorrow.

The remains of Frank Mahoney, whose death occurred at Denver Wednesday of last week, reached Boone Sunday evening at 5:00 o’clock. T.J. and Ed Mahoney went to Denver and accompanied them to the city. In the funeral party were Mrs. Mahoney, wife of the deceased, Mr. and Mrs. William Mahoney of Casper, Wyoming, and J.H. Mahoney of Des Moines, who went as far as Omaha.
Upon arriving in this city they were taken to the home of the deceased’s parents, Mr. and Mrs. Tim Mahoney, 1221 Greene street. Short services were held in Denver by Father Robinson of the Church of the Annunciation before starting for this city. The funeral was held on Monday morning at 9:00 o’clock from the Church of the Sacred Heart. The funeral mass was celebrated by Rev. J.P. Barron, who delivered the funeral sermon.
The remains were laid to rest in the Catholic cemetery. The pall bearers were W.R. Matt, E.C.Jordan, Matt Welsh, J.A. Menton, T.J. O’Connell, J.F. Ivis.
Francis Mahoney was born in Kenosha county, Wisconsin, October 7, 1859. He came with his parents to Boone county in March, 1867, and lived on the old homestead in Harrison township for a number of years. In 1880 he went west and since 1882 was a resident of Denver, with the exception of a short period that he lived here about eleven years ago.
In February, 1907, he was united in marriage to Miss Anna Stack of Denver, who survives. Besides his aged parents he leaves four brothers, William of Casper, Wyoming, J.H. of Des Moines, Ed and T.J. of this city, and two sisters, Mrs. P.M. Reilly and Mrs. A.E. Murphy of this city. Up to 1901 he was in the employ of the Union Pacific as fireman and engineer and resigned on account of ill health. He returned to Boone and during his residence here regained his health. He then returned to Denver and devoted his time to looking after his property interests. About two and one half years ago his health broke down, being of a nervous and physical condition. The exact manner of his death is unknown but it resulted from a fall from the balcony of the fourth floor of St. Anthony’s hospital in Denver where he had been taking treatment for the past three months. The Mahoney family have the sympathy of all in their sad bereavement.
