T/Sgt Robert B. White
Technical Sergeant Robert Benjamin White, son of Mr. and Mrs. Benjamin White of Maramec, Oklahoma, was born at La Junta, Colorado, November 4, 1914, and passed away at Gallup, New Mexico, May 14, 1948 at the age of 33 years, five months and 10 days. He spent his early childhood days around Maramec and Pawnee, Oklahoma. He attended grade and high school at Pawnee,
He entered the army in 1935 at the age of twenty and one half years. He received his training at Fort Sill, Oklahoma. On September 20, 1941, he was united in marriage to Miss Leona Juracek of Snyder, Oklahoma. To this union one son, Tony, was born,
He served overseas with the 93rd Filed Artillery in Africa, Italy, France, Germany, Austria, and Czechoslovakia. He was awarded two arrowheads, four battle stars and the purple heart for wounds received in Italy in 1944. He was honorably discharged at Camp Chaffee, Ark., in 1945. He immediately re-entered the army to continue his career as a professional soldier.
At the time of his death Sgt. Robert B. White was on duty in the Recruiting Service and was stationed at Gallup, New Mexico.
He was a kind and devoted husband and was liked by all. He leaves to mourn his death his loving wife and son of Snyder; son, Robert Junior of Pawnee; his parents of Maramec; one sister Mrs. Kathleen Bird of Stillwater; two brothers, William F. White of Ponca City and Percy White of home address and a host of relatives and friends.
Sergeant Weaver of the Gallup Post escorted his body home for burial in the Yale Cemetery.
Funeral services were conducted at the First Baptist Church of Yale Wednesday May 19 by Reb. H. Ernest Hill of Pawnee, in the absence of the pastor Rev. Pyland. Mr. and Mrs. Ed Hill sang, accompanied by Mrs. Joe Myers.
American Legion Post No. 161 under the direction of L. O.. Bogstie, provided military funeral. Color guard and bearers were Ted Moser, Buzz Farris, Wayne Reams; firing squad AA. M. Sweeden, Virgil Flager, Henry Ford, Bill D. Armand, H. B. Bird, Junior Haddock, Vernon Dawes; bugler, Robert Watson; pall bearers Don Wingo, John Freeman, Virgil Kirkpatrick, Jimmie Scott, Jimmie Rickner, Clifton Strothmann. The Post Chaplain read the committal service.
