MRS. LINA ERWIN CLARK

Was a Sister of the Late Mrs. Chas. E. Hillman


Mrs. Lina Erwin Clark, wife of Willis Gaylord Clark, of Mobile, Alabama, died yesterday morning (May 20, 1898) at 4 o'clock at the late residence of her sister, Mrs. Charles E. Hillman, on Berryhill Street. Mrs. Clark had been ill for some time, and since the death of her sister, Thursday night a week ago, has grown rapidly worse. Mrs. Clark leaves a husband and one son.


The funeral services will be held from Christ Church this afternoon at 4 o'clock, conducted by Rev. J.R. Winchester. The following gentlemen will act as pall-bearers: Robert Cowan, Dr. W.L. NIchol, Nat. Yeatman, James Woods, Calvin Morgan, Joseph Vaulx, John M. Bass, Thomas Weaver.

At the residence of her late sister, Mrs. Charles E. Hillman, at 4 o'clock yesterday morning, Lina Erwin, wife of Willis Gaylord Clark of Mobile, Alabama and daughter of the late John P. Erwin of this city. Funeral from Christ Church this (Saturday) afternoon at 4 o'clock. The following gentlemen are requested to act as pall-bearers: Dr. W.L. Nichol, Robert Cowan, Nat Yeatman, Jas. Woods, Calvin Morgan, Jos. Vaulx, John M. Bass and Thos. Weaver. Interment at Mt. Olivet Cemetery, M.S. Combs & Co. directors.

Lina Erwin Clark was born around 1831 in Nashville, Tennessee, the youngest daughter of Col. John P. and Frances Erwin. She married John Scott in Davidson, Tennessee on October 2, 1860 and together they had one son, Ledyard Scott. She married Willis Gaylord Clark on April 11, 1871 in Mobile, Alabama who had an adopted daughter, Bessie Clark (Bessie Clark Spencer 1863-1939).
