Kay Isabelle (Roberts) Cox Thelen
Marshalltown - Kay Isabelle (Roberts) Cox Thelen, 88, passed away on July 31, 2021. She was born June 24, 1933 in Des Moines to Louis and Katherine (Crees) Roberts. Kay spent the first 7 years of her life in Audubon living with her uncle and aunt, Alvin and Hazel known to Kay as "Mommy and Daddy". Kay attended Kindergarten and First Grade in Audubon before moving to Des Moines. She graduated from North High School in 1951. In August 1951, Kay was united in marriage to Richard Cox. To this union was born 4 children, Marilyn, David, Darrel and Robert. In 1957, the Cox family moved to Johnston where they lived until 1978. Kay later married Gene Thelen.
Besides being a homemaker and raising a family, Kay worked periodically as a bookkeeper. She was with Brunia Electric for 6 years and the City of Clive for 5 years. Kay was a woman of strong faith who trusted in Jesus Christ's sacrifice as her faith for eternal life. She was an avid reader, talented gardener, enjoyed crocheting, and singing around the house making it a happy home. Kay was a loving mother, grandmother and great grandmother.
Kay was preceded in death by her husband, Gene; twin sister, Kathleen Brunia and sister, Beverly Russio.
Funeral services will be held at 10 am on Friday, August 6, 2021 at Hamilton's near Highland Memory Gardens, 121 NW 60th Ave., Des Moines. Visitation will be held from 5 – 7 pm on Thursday, August 5, 2021 at the funeral home. Burial will follow services at Highland Memory Gardens Cemetery. The service will be live streamed and available through her obituary page on Hamilton's website. Due to construction, please access the funeral home via NE 14th Street.
