1956 ~ 2021

Mark Vance Smith, age 64, passed away peacefully in his sleep at his home in Herriman, UT in the early morning hours of July 30th, 2021. He was born on August 30, 1956 in Murray, UT to Vance Leon and Maxine Walker Smith. He grew up in Draper, UT and graduated from Jordan High School in 1974. He soon married Wendy Erickson in the Salt Lake Temple on October 1st, 1975. They had two children and would have celebrated their 46th wedding anniversary this year.

Mark was diagnosed with diabetes at an early age and lost his eyesight at 23 due to complications of the disease. Despite his physical limitations, he loved the outdoors. He regularly camped with his family and often talked about how much he loved the smell of pine trees and mountain air. He loved hunting with his son and son-in-law and went as often as his health would allow. But mostly, he loved fishing. It was something he could do without a lot of help and would go with literally anyone that would let him tag along.

Mark was an inspiration to everyone he met. His positive attitude and unwillingness to give in to his disability was an inspiration. Although totally blind, he broke down numerous barriers throughout his life including getting an Associate's Degree in small engine repair and working as a mechanic for much of his life. He loved working with his hands and was often found in his garage working on various projects and blasting country music or classic rock. His family meant everything to him, especially his grandkids. He loved any opportunity he had to talk about them and it brought a joy and smile to his face. Without even trying, he left a lasting impression on everyone he met.

Mark is survived by his wife Wendy Smith, his son Ryan (Brooke) Smith, his daughter Nichol (Mike) Allen, and four grandchildren: Bailee, Keltsee, Carlee, and Paxton Allen. He is also survived by his brother Jeff (Heidi) Smith and his sister Shelly Fastidio.

He is preceded in death by his father and mother Vance and Maxine Smith, and his sister Lori (Gaylen) Young.

A viewing will be held on Thursday, August 5th from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm at Anderson & Goff Mortuary located at 11859 S. 700 E. in Draper, UT. Funeral services will be held on Friday, August 6th at 11:00 am also at Anderson & Goff Mortuary with a viewing preceding from 9:30 am until 10:45 am. He will be interred at the Draper Cemetery located at 12441 S. 900 E.
