Richard was born Oct. 6, 1931 in Eldon, Mo., to John Henry and Hattie Cross. He served in the U.S. Army, and then worked for Standard Oil in Sugar Creek before his retirement. He and his wife, Alma, then moved to Bolivar, where Richard enjoyed fishing and family gatherings.
Richard is survived by his wife, Alma Faye (Markham) Cross; two daughters, Laura Cross and Penny Cross; sister, Phyllis Sullivan and husband, Dale; nephew, Steve Hennigh and wife, Myra; niece, Sandy Shonk and husband, Dennis; nephew, Donald Hennigh and wife, Sharon; cousin, Bob Simpson and wife, Marilyn; and numerous grandchildren, great-nieces and nephews, and extended family. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Cathy Arnold. Richard will be missed by all who knew him.
A visitation was held from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the Carson-Speaks Chapel, Independence, 816-252-7900. Online condolences may be expressed to the family at www.speakschapel.com.
