Albert Edwin Bitz, 66, of Boone, Iowa passed away in his sleep at home, after a long battle with lung disease on Saturday, July 31, 2021.

Albert was born on January 18, 1955 in Eureka, South Dakota, the son of Henry and Gertrude (Bender) Bitz.

On September 21, 1974 Albert married his soul mate and the love of his life, Loretta Yost, at the Congregational Church in Yankton, South Dakota. Albert and Loretta were married for 29 years before she passed away due to complications of Lupus in 2003. The couple renewed their vows on their 25th wedding anniversary in the presence of their family and friends.

Albert came from a large family and was one out of thirteen siblings. In his younger years, Albert and his siblings would go to the dump and get old bicycles, rebuild them, and ride them around for fun. Albert would also hunt squinnies and then cut their tails off and sell them for five cents apiece.

Albert was always a hard worker since he was a young boy. He grew up and had a career as a roofer. Albert was very knowledgeable and was always the "go-to" guy to get a roof fixed right. Albert had a great sense of humor and was an all-around great man who people enjoyed being around and spending time with. Albert was always making people smile and laugh.

Albert enjoyed fishing, camping, and Loretta's wonderful cooking. He enjoyed watching John Wayne western movies and Little House on the Prairie. He enjoyed listening to music, with AC/DC and Johnny Cash being two of his favorites.

Most of all, Albert loved spending time with his son, Eric. Albert and Eric had an unbreakable bond and they had such a close and special relationship. Albert and Eric were not just father and son, they were best friends.

Albert was preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Gertrude Bitz; his wife, Loretta Bitz; one infant daughter, Rebecca Jean Bitz; siblings: Mary Albertsen, Peggy Donne, Elmer Bitz, Judy Hoffman, Janet Bitz, Martin Bitz, and infant sister, Sandra Bitz.

Survivors include his son, Eric Bitz; granddaughters: Taylor Bitz and Erika Bitz; one great granddaughter, Layla Moon; siblings: Gerald Bitz, Angie Haak, Wilmer Bitz, Sadie Geohring, Barbara Bitz, and all their spouses; several nieces and nephews; and dogs: Tank and Jester.
