OAK HILL, Aug. 14 —(Special)
— Joseph P. Tyree, owner of Tyree
mortuary here, died Wednesday at
his home, Maple Fork Rd., Mt.
Hope, RFD 1. He was 73.
Mr. Tyree had been in ill health
for five years and had not taken an
active part in business for two
years. Death apparently was
caused by a heart attack.
He was born April 18, 1879, at Pax.
In 1915, he opened a mortuary
n his home town. In 1927, he
moved here. Prior to entering the
profession, Mr. Tyree was in the
lumber business. He operated sawmill
in Fayete and Raleigh counties.
Mr. Tyree was a member of the
Church of Christ at Pax; He was also
active in the Masonic Lodge. He
was a member of AF&AM Lodge
No. 103 of McDonald, Sewell Chaper,
No. 24, of the Royal Arch
Masons, Mt. Hope Commandry No.
22 of the Knights Templar. He was
32nd degree Mason.
He also belonged to the Knights
of Pythias Lodge No. 17 of Oak
Hill. Knights of Khorassan Shira
Temple No. 29 of Charleston, Loyal
Order of Moose No. 1664 of Oak
fill, the National, Capitol and
West Virginia District Funeral
Directors Assoc.
Surviving are the wife, Mrs. Josephine
Tyree; a brother, Charley of Pax
and a sister, Mrs. Rhoda Davis
of Pax; a son, A. J. Tyree of
Mt. Hope; and a daughter, Mrs.
llaude Sowders of Beckley.
Service will be at 2 p. m. Sunday
at the residence. Rev. Freddie
Dinkier and Rev. C. S. Donelly of
Oak Hill will officiate. Burial, directed
by Hunter and Hunter moruary
of Madison, will be in a
mausoleum at Sunset Memorial
Park, Beckley.
The Masonic lodge will conduct
graveside service and furnish pall-
bearers. The body will be taken
from Hunter and Hunter mortuary
to the residence at 5 p. m. Friday.
