a.k.a. Willie Ross (Actor/Comedian)

William was born in Bishop Auckland in 1938. He began as one-side of a comedy double act, along with Peter Lambert, called Lambert & Ross and they toured the North-East club circuit to great success. During this time Willie went into acting and his first role was in the 1987 film "Rita Sue & Bob Too" as the foul-mouthed, perennially drunk father of Sue. The acting bug soon bit and that signalled the end of the partnership in 1988.

He and his wife, Joan (nee Stringer), also moved from Darlington to Wellingborough, Northamptonshire - 50 minutes from Kings Cross by train.

Further movie roles included "The Cook, The Thief, His Wife and Her Lover", "The Secret Society" On Television : Catherine Cookson's "The Tide Of Life", "RiffRaff" "Our Friends In The North" (again playing a drunk), Dalziel & Pascoe" and "Doomwatch"

Sadly Willie died in February 2000, after a fall at his home in Wellingborough, Northamptonshire, England.. age 62.

Although he had the fall at home, his death is listed as occurring at Newcastle-Upon-Tyne hospital, which is about 184 miles away. A likely reason for this is that the hospital may have had special facilities to deal with coma victims.

A sad loss to the industry.

He was buried on the 18th of February at Irchester cemetery, Wellingborough, UK
