Published in the Piscataquis (ME) Observer on 1 Sep 1853 p3: "DEATHS---In the death of Adoniram A., son of Nath'l and Nancy F. Ames, of this town, published in the last previous number of this paper, there were some circumstances worthy of particular notice. Although called from earth while a mere lad, yet he obeyed the call like a Christian and a philosopher. He seemed prepared to go.

Before his physician, or any other one, had spoken discouragingly of his case, he told his mother, a short time previous to his departure, that he should die first. When he felt that he had but a little longer to stay, he called his friends, one after another, to the side of his bed---first his parents and then his three little sisters their only remaining children, and embracing them in a most affectionate and touching manner, bade them adieu, at the same time commending them to the care of God, and counseling the little girls to be good children. Having done this, he soon after breathed his last, and slept serenely and beautifully in death.

Such a death scene may fittingly be called a happy one; and may those who witnessed it, and those who shall read this brief description of it, so prepare themselves to leave the world, that the scene of their departure may be alike happy and interesting.

God be merciful and kind to the bereaved family---especially to the mother, whose health is uniformly feeble---and support them under the affliction which He has laid on them."
