Dola Fern (Guernsey) Davis

On Saturday, July 31, 2021, Dola Fern Guernsey Davis, mother of seven and teacher of hundreds, passed peacefully from this life. At the time of her passing, she lived in Lehi, UT. She was 98 years old.
Dola was born on August 16, 1922, in Phillips County, CO, to Clarence and Mabel Guernsey. She had six siblings, Daisy Marguerite, Wilma Pearl, Clarence Max, Audrey Maureen, Evelyn Faye, and Robert Dale, all of whom preceded her in death.
On May 14, 1945, Dola married Jess Hatch Davis, whom Dola had met while she was working as an x-ray technician in Denver, CO. The couple spent the early years of their marriage in Logan, UT, Homer, AK, and West Jordan, UT, before moving to Overton, NV, where Dola spent more than two decades as a much beloved kindergarten teacher while she raised seven children: Max Gordon Davis, Vicki (Terry) Johnston, Charles Stephen Davis, Alice (Mac) Haddow, Larry (Donna) Davis, Jess Hatch "Buddy" Davis, and Gayle (Brian) Barnes.
In addition to her 7 children, Dola has 32 grandchildren, 74 great-grandchildren, and 6 great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband Jess, her son Max, and two grandchildren, Alison Johnston and Jace Edwards Davis.
Dola was a convert to The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and she spent many years teaching and serving Primary children. Additional church work included diligent service as a visiting teacher, compassionate service leader, and temple worker. Dola often said that the years she and her husband spent working in the Las Vegas temple were some of the happiest of their married life.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, August 21, 2021, at the Overton Latter-day Saint Chapel located at 226 West Thomas Street, Overton, NV 89040. The viewing will begin at 10 a.m., and funeral services will follow at 11 a.m. Interment will take place at 3 p.m. at the Palm Mortuary, 7600 S. Eastern Avenue, Las Vegas, NV.
