Mr. William Gerald Agnew, 85, of Marsh Lane, Hartwell, passed away Thursday, November 24, 2022 at Rainey Hospice House in Anderson, SC.
Born on June 8, 1937 in Hartwell, GA, he was the son of the late Anderson Waco Agnew and Margaret "Maggie" Jordan Agnew. Mr. Agnew was a retired LPN for the Brown Convalescent Center in Royston and a former banker for the Northeast Georgia Bank. He was also a devoted member of the Bethany Baptist Church where he was a Deacon & former music director. Mr. Agnew was also a US Army veteran.
Survivors include his two sons: Steven Agnew of Hartwell and Paul Agnew (Mona) of Bowersville; daughter: Melita Tauber (Ryan) of Hartwell; five grandchildren: Will Agnew (Kristina), Maggie Agnew, Phoebe Tauber, Andrew Robinson (Mandi), and Amber Keeling (James); and four great grandchildren: Hunter & Stephen Agnew, and Lara & Alyiah Keeling. Mr. Agnew is preceded in death by his parents; wife: Laura J. Hilley Agnew; two brothers: Malloy & Robert Agnew; and two sisters: Maree Nelson and Anna Gibson.
The family will receive friends Saturday evening from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Strickland Funeral Home of Hartwell. Other times the family will be at the home of Paul & Mona Agnew, 37 Bennett Rd, Bowersville, GA.
Funeral services for Mr. Gerald Agnew will be held Sunday, November 27, 2022 at 2:00 p.m. at the Bethany Baptist Church with Revs. Luther Thomason and Jerry Durham officiating. Burial will be in the Bethany Baptist Church Cemetery.
Flowers optional, memorials may be made to the Bethany Baptist Church, 2085 Bethany-Bowersville Rd, Canon, GA 30520 or the Parkinson's Disease Foundation, 1359 Broadway, Ste. 1509, New York, NY 10018.
