She died peacefully on November 21, 2007 in Kernville. She came to Bakersfield as a child during the Dustbowl era. She lived in the labor camps in the Arvin/Lamont area where even as a child, she helped her family pick cotton, cook and clean. She also helped care for her five siblings. At the age of fifteen, Mom left home and married Borden Wylie. She and Borden had two children, Mitchell Dean Wylie and Beverly Ann Wylie. Years later she and Borden divorced. She later met Rubin Clyde (R.C.) Abbott whom she married. This union produced a daughter, Karen Lee Abbott. Alma and R.C. moved with their family to Oregon and later to Morro Bay. They returned to Bakersfield and lived here until a year and a half ago, when they moved to Havilah next to their son Mitchell and his family. Mom enjoyed square dancing, country music, fishing, shopping at K-Mart and drinking coffee with her best friend and sister-in-law, Maebelle Foster. One of her favorite pastimes was playing Bingo with her sister-in-law, Brigitta Foster. When she was able, she attended First Pentecostal Church of Bakersfield. She was well known for her fruit salad and homemade pies during the holidays. She was a beautiful woman and was deeply loved by all. She was soft spoken and very graceful. Mom loved all of her nine grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. Mom is preceded in death by her parents; brother, James Foster and nephew, Gary Foster. She is survived by her husband, Rubin (R.C.) Abbott; brothers, Garvey (Maebelle) Foster, Kefton (Brigitta) Foster and L.D. (Jeanette) Foster; sister.
