Father of Engineer Lieutenant George Henry Daymond of The Royal Navy's Armed Merchant Cruiser HMS Laurentic. On the morning of Thursday 25th January 1917 the vessel was sailing from Birkenhead to Montreal but had called at Buncrana in Lough Swilly, Co. Donegal to put two members of the crew ashore suffering from fever. On leaving the Lough at 1755 that afternoon it hit two mines which had been laid by KM.U-80. Although some of the crew managed to take to lifeboats, many died of exposure before reaching shore. Over the next weeks other bodies were washed ashore. A total of 354 personnel were killed.
71 of the casualties, including Lt.Daymond, were buried together in the churchyard at Fahan, Co.Donegal.
