Ralph John Valdez
Ralph John Valdez was born July 16,1949, in Rocky Ford, Colo., and entered heaven Aug. 9 2021. Ralph is survived by his wife, Julie Roten-Valdez; mother, Elaiza R. Valdez; children, Olivia (Sam) Spinuzzi, Ralph Jr. (Laura); three grandchildren, Bailey Spinuzzi, Kyli and Lennon Valdez; brother, Albert Valdez; sister, Joanne(Ernie) Moreno; special Uncle Albert "Feathers" Valdez of Albuquerque, N.M.; stepdaughter, Jessica Roten; and numerous nephews and nieces. Ralph was preceded in death by father, Arturo Valdez; siblings, Clara Aguilar, Delores, Robert and Diana Valdez; grandparents, Isiasas and Lola Valdez, and Maxemilino and Demetria Roybal. Ralph was raised in Wagon Mound, N.M. He was an All-State basketball player and continued his education and basketball career at Highlands University. Ralph later joined the U.S Army and served in South Korea. Upon his discharge, he returned to Pueblo and was employed by CF&I. Ralph was known for his basketball prowess and played in various Chicano leagues throughout the state in his younger days. Throughout his life, Ralph was known for his sense of humor, love of New Mexico, his native heritage, and enjoyed the solace he found in 12 step programs later in life. Ralph's children would like to thank the Valdez/Roybal extended family, the staff at Lifecare Center and friends who made Ralph's life brighter. Please join us for a celebration of life at 10 a.m., Sept 24, 2021, 10:00 at Montgomery Steward. Burial, Ft. Lyons National Cemetery.
