One of the pioneers of Boone County died at his home in Marcy Township on Friday evening at 8 o'clock in the person of Willis W. Holloway. The deceased was eighty two years of age and had been ill for the past eight months. In the death of Mr. Holloway another of the founders of the county has passed to his eternal rest. Coming here when it was but a wilderness he lived to see its fertile soil populated with a prosperous people. The deceased was born in Wilkes County, North Carolina in October, 1819. In 1853 he removed to Boone County and settled upon the present Holloway residence, his home up to the time of his death.
He was married in North Carolina to Miss Frankie Cathren who survives his death. Ten children were born to this union, seven of whom are living. They are three sons, Oliver of Townsend, Montana; Thomas of Florence, Montana; Lindolph at home; and four daughters, Mrs. Emma McCall, Mrs. Jane Williams, Mrs. Ellen Blythe and Mrs. Allie H. McCall, the latter the wife of C.J. McCall. All reside in Boone County and were present at the funeral except the two sons in Montana. The funeral was held Saturday afternoon at 5 o'clock and the remains interred in the cemetery on the home place. The bereaved family have the sincere sympathy of the Democrat in their hour of sorrow.
