Dr. Joe W. Aspley Jr., of Lexington, passed away Thursday, Nov. 22, 2007, at the Hospice Unit of St. Joseph Hospital in Lexington. Joe was a native of Glasgow and a graduate of Glasgow High School. He received his B.A. degree from Transylvania University in Lexington, the Master of Divinity and Doctor of Ministry Degrees from Lexington Theological Seminary. He also received certificates for advanced studies in the fields of counseling, evangelism and stewardship. Dr. Aspley was a retired minister with the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) and had served churches in Kentucky, Illinois and Ohio. He has written three books and materials that were published in various denominational magazines, local newspapers and university publications. He was a 50-year member of the Masonic Lodge.

Survivors include his wife, Jean Fletcher Aspley; his daughter, Paula J. Aspley of Lexington; his granddaughters, Bethany Jean Berryman of Winchester and Kristina Jo Berryman of Lexington; his step-mother, Ruth Geralds Aspley of Ormond Beach, Fla.; his sister, Jennie Lou Nunn Penn of Frankfort; his brothers, Donald Bruce Aspley of Greenville, Tenn., and Steven Roberts Nunn of Glasgow.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Beula Cornelius Aspley Nunn; his father, Joe W. Aspley Sr.; and a sister, Mary Susan Aspley Krieger.

Burial was in the Glasgow Municipal Cemetery.
