David L. Ayers, Sr., 66, of Chillicothe, died 7:09 a.m. Tuesday, August 17, 2021 at his residence following a courageous battle with cancer.

He was born October 25, 1954, in Jackson County, to the late Dewitt and Zerelda Cliffton Ayers. On November 29, 1980, he married the former Cheryl Mattox who survives.

In addition to his wife, surviving are a daughter; a daughter-in-law; three grandchildren; five brothers; three sisters; many nieces and nephews; and special friends, Tony and Tom. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a son David L. Ayers, Jr.; brothers, Arnett "John" Ayers; and sisters, Lillian Ellen Ayers, Beverly Combs and Arlene Hatcher.

David was a member of Kingdom Hearts Church and had retired from Asplundh where he had worked for many years.

Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Monday, August 23, 2021 in the WARE FUNERAL HOME with Pam Sheets and Pastor Kyle Coriell officiating. Burial will follow in Greenlawn Cemetery. Friends may call at the WARE FUNERAL HOME from 11 a.m. until the time of the service on Monday.
