Norma Jean Rucker, nee Baker, of Birmingham, Alabama (more recently, Snellville, Ga.) graduated to her heavenly home on August 17, 2021 at the age of 91. Jean is preceded in death by her husband Frank Rucker Sr., and father and mother, Manley and Cora Baker, 2 brothers, Jimmy Baker (Grace) and Foster Baker (Freida) but all are now reunited for eternity in Heaven. She is survived by her son Rick Rucker (wife Myra) and daughter Renee Machen (husband Lee). She is also survived by her four grandchildren – Beth Farmer (husband Zack), Brad Rucker (wife Debi), Kristen Lowe (husband Sam), and Nan Sosebee (husband Daniel). Mrs. Rucker is also survived by 7 great grandchildren – Ava, Kate, Will, Jackson, Daniel, Mackenlee and Hudson. Mrs. Rucker was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She was a strong Christian woman who set a great example for her family by the way she lived her life. In recent years, she attended First Baptist Church, Snellville, Ga., where she was active in Sunday school and church. Prior to her move to Georgia, she was an active member of Central Park Baptist Church, Birmingham, Al. for approximately 60 years where she taught Sunday School and Vacation Bible School. Jean enjoyed being a stay-at-home wife, mother and home maker, especially during her 56-year marriage to her husband Frank. She loved to sew, do needlework, make delicious meals for her family, play games, square dance, and care for her friends. Even as physical problems began to take a toll on her life, she remained firm to the end that she would spend eternity with her Savior. As we mourn her loss, we also celebrate her triumphal arrival into Heaven. Our mom went to her heavenly home early this morning. Visitation is scheduled for 12 p.m. to 2.00 p.m., Sunday August 22, 2021 at Ridout's Funeral Home, Elmwood Chapel, in Birmingham, Al. Graveside services will follow visitation at Elmwood Cemetery.
