Margie Nell Holt (Blazer), age 90, left for her heavenly home on Friday, August 20, 2021, following a short stay in hospice care at NHC in Milan, TN. Margie was one of seven children born to Allie Nelda (Dunn) Blazer and Walter Earl Blazer on September 16, 1930. She lived in Milan, TN most of her life but delighted in telling people that she was born in Brazil. She would wait a bit before clarifying, with a laugh, that it was Brazil, Tennessee. She was known far and wide for her sense of humor.
To most who knew her, she was simply called "Nan"- a funny, sassy, feisty, caring, loving, and protective woman who made everyone feel like they were family. Although she never had much there was always enough: food on the table, a place to rest, and a warm embrace. People often requested her extra special turkey and dressing, coconut cake, and banana pudding. She had a sweet tooth that she loved to share. She was an amazing cook and learned at the knee of her momma. If Heaven didn't smell good before, it sure does now. She never missed an Alabama football game on tv and could talk game day smack with the best around. If you knew Nan, you also knew about us, her family, who she loved fiercely, and who carries her love forward. She loved us to the moon and back.
Still here, waiting to join her one day are her children: Marie Lowery (Phil) of McKenzie, TN and Kim Frutiger ( Mark) of Big Island, Hawaii; her highly adored grandchildren, Greg Lowery of Florida, Brittany Presson-Tatum ( Nic) of Christiansburg, VA, Adrain Tyler Presson of Milan, TN; her cherished great-grandson, Atlas Tatum of Christiansburg, VA; her siblings, who were also her best friends; Wallace Blazer (Joy) of Florida, Maxine McCartney of Bradford, TN, and Martha Harris (Jim) of Jackson, TN. "Aunt Margie" also leaves behind many beloved nieces and nephews and several great-nieces and nephews. Her many cousins, friends, and honorary family members (she was adopted by so many) will miss her lively conversations, twinkling eyes, and musical laugh. She was known as a kind, gentle, loving, caring, compassionate woman and well-loved by all who knew her. If there were any who didn't, she would tell them to "just go kiss ole Dobbin".
She loved to cook and eat. She loved to spend time with her family, going for drives, gossiping, talking on the phone or just holding hands. She was great at Sudoku and liked to read, especially her bible. A good steamy book could sometimes be found in her collection. The thing she was most appreciative of and grateful for was simply the time that people would give her. She was a strong woman and equally strong in her opinions, determined to do things her way and not afraid to speak her mind. She was a woman of great faith and spirit. She attended Northside Baptist Church when she could and loved singing old hymns.
Rejoicing now in their heavenly reunion are her parents; Allie and Walter Blazer, her siblings; Margaret Garmany, Earl Blazer, and James Blazer, and her little boy; David Hilliard Jr. We know she is holding little David in her arms once again in Heaven. She is also preceded by her grandparents, aunts, uncles, and many other loved ones who rejoice in seeing her again.
