E.J. "Jay" McCoy

E.J. "Jay" McCoy, age 79, Farwell, formerly of Alma, passed away Monday, July 21, 2003 at his home after a lengthy illness. Jay was born the son of Walter and Gertrude (Lamb) McCoy on February 3, 1924 in Gratiot County. He married the former Shirley Snyder on November 6, 1949 and they resided in Alma most of their married lives, moving to Farwell in 1997. Jay was a veteran of World War II, having seen action in Japan and also the Philippines. He retired from Total Refinery in Alma after 35 years.

He is survived by his wife of nearly 54 years Shirley McCoy of Farwell; a daughter Sharon (Robert) Schafer of Clare; two grandchildren Elizabeth and Matthew Schafer, both of Clare; two sisters Bessie McCoy of St. Louis and Dorothy (Bill) Bigelow of Alma. Jay was predeceased by his parents, two brothers Robert and Rollin and a sister Marge Clark.

In keeping with Jay's final wishes, cremation has taken place with a private service to be held at a later date. Memorials may be made at Heartland Hospice, 401 Center Ave., Suite #060, Bay City, MI 48708. The Stephenson-Wyman Funeral Home, Inc. of Clare handled arrangements for cremation.
