Paul Cain, 96, of Sweetwater passed away on Saturday, July 30, 2005 at the Nolan Rehab and Nursing Center in Sweetwater. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, August 2, 2005 at the 1st United Methodist Church of Sweetwater with Rev. Mark Metzger officiating. Burial will follow in the Garden of Memories Cemetery under the direction of McCoy Funeral Home of Sweetwater.

Paul was born on June 19, 1909 in Alba, Texas. He married Jauncy Hopper on July 8, 1930 in Hamlin, Texas.

Paul was the first President of the Knife & Fork Club, Was a Charter member of the Sweetwater Country Club, member of the 1st United Methodist Church, member of the Masonic Lodge # 571 for 65 years. Past Vice-President of the Sweetwater Chamber of Commerce, served on the Nolan County School Board for 15 years. He was also a Past President of the Board of City Development and enjoyed fishing and golf.

Paul was a graduate of Alba High School, Assistant Manager of the Sweetwater Production Credit for 14 years, worked for Farmers and Merchants Bank and 1st National Bank in Hamlin for 7 years. He was named Outstanding Citizen of Hamlin and was a Past Vice President & President of Texas Bank & Trust for 23 years, Past President of the Rotary Club in Sweetwater, Past President of the West Texas Conference of the National Association of Bank & Trust Auditors & Comptrollers. He was named Outstanding Citizen of Sweetwater in 1972, and is a Past member of the Sweetwater area Hereford Association. He served on the Agricultural Committee for District 6 and was past President of the Banking Group and received a 20 Year Certificate.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Jauncy Cain on April 13, 1999.

Survivors include: a son, John Paul Cain and wife, Carol of Sweetwater; one brother, Robert L. Cain and wife Kathleen of Pueblo, Colorado; two granddaughters, Kellie Cain Long well and husband Larry of Houston and Julia Cain of Houston; two great granddaughters, Margaret "Meg" Longwell and Molly Elizabeth Longwell, both of Houston.

The family will receive friends and visitors from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Monday, August 1st at the funeral home.
