Delilah Ann Stahley, the only child of Rev. Andrew Stahley and his first wife Charlotte Vogt*, was born 17 Sep 1843 in York, York County, Pennsylvania per the Illinois Deaths and Stillbirths Index, FHL Film 1570833 and various family records. Delilah's birth is further documented in a biographical sketch of her father published in "The Biographical Record of Ogle County, Illinois", pp. 204-206. The relevant excerpt reads: "Mr. Stahley was first married in 1842 to Miss Charlotte Vogt, a native of York county, Pennsylvania, and daughter of Peter and Paulina (Will) Vogt. She (Charlotte) died in York county after a wedded life of five years, leaving one daughter, Delilah Ann, now the wife of Isaac Vogelgesang, a retired merchant and business man of Forreston. "

Delilah (listed as Dilda, age 7) is first found in census records in 1850 in Lower Windsor, York County, Pennsylvania, in the home of her grandparents Peter and Catherine Stahle (sic). Per family records Delilah rejoined her father in 1852 after he remarried to Sarah Long, who raised Delilah. Per the 1860 census Delilah Staly (sic), age 17, lived in Salem, Columbiana, Ohio with her father, step mother, her step mother's parents and her half-sister Josephine Stahley, age 5.

Delilah Stahley married Isaac J Vogelgesang in Stephenson, Illinois 10 Dec 1867 [License # 617] after which the couple lived with Delilah's father and family in Forreston, Ogle County, Illinois per the 1870 census. Delilah and Issac are also found in Forrestion in the 1880 ,1900 and 1910 U.S. censuses. Delilah and Isaac's only child, Elta Josephine, was born 22 Jan 1880. She is "Etta" age 5 months in the 1880 census for Forreston. [Alice Hauptfuehrer in that census was a niece of Isaac Vogelgesang]. On 10 December 1917 Delilah and Isaac Vogelgesang celebrated their Golden Anniversary, which was commemorated in a booklet written by their son-in-law Edwin H Forkel, Sr. who had married Delilah's daughter Elta Josephine. Delilah and Isaac moved to Naperville, DuPage, IL sometime before the 1920 census was enumerated.

Delilah Ann (Stahley) Vogelgesang died 7 Aug 1922 in Oak Park, Cook County, Illinois per her death record [FHL Film 1570833]. She is buried in White Oak Cemetery, Forreston, Ogle, Illinois in a joint grave with her husband Isaac J Vogelgesang, her daughter Elta Josephine (Vogelgesang) Forkel and Elta's husband Edwin Henry Forkel, Sr.

*Charlotte Vogt's birth/baptism record cites her name as Sharlotta or Sharlotte Focht. The German surname Vogt has been spelled in numerous ways in US records.
