Edward Leroy Zwetzig, 80, Lifelong Ft. Morgan resident, died Saturday, November 24, 2007 at his home in Ft. Morgan.

Edward was born May 5, 1927 in Fort Morgan to A.G. and Eva Margaret (Bauer) Zwetzig. He was the second of five children, having two brothers and two sisters. He was baptized on July 4, 1927 in the Evangelical and Reformed Lutheran Church. He enjoyed sharing stories of this childhood including attempts at "flying" off the garage roof and going to Brush with friends to play pool. Prior to high school graduation, he joined the Navy. He served from 1945 to 1949 in the Pacific Campaign; during this time he earned his GED.

While stationed in San Diego, he met Catherine Dayton, a nurse. They were married on September 25, 1949 in Chula Vista, California and returned to Fort Morgan, where he resided until his death. The couple was blessed with two daughters and two sons. Returning from the Navy, Ed was employed by Bauer's Market, owned by his uncle Jake Bauer, then H.A Marr Grocery Warehouse, followed by Eastman Brothers. From 1960 until 1992, he was purchasing agent a Morgan County REA. Besides the regular duties of his job at the REA, he thoroughly enjoyed helping individual customers get the electrical supplies they needed at the best price possible. Ed was a past member of the Junior Chamber of Commerce (one year as president), the Jaycees and the American Legion. He was a member of the Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church. He loved to ride his motorcycle and to drive his Cadillac. Most importantly, he was a wonderful husband and a very proud and supportive father and grandfather, attending countless athletic events, concerts, and recitals. In 1993 he was named the Woodlin School Booster of the Year. Ed was a talented craftsman and in 1979 he started a project he had planned for quite some time. He began renovation and building onto an old two story house in Fort Morgan. Over the course of the next 4 years, after work and on weekends, he single handedly turned the structure in to a dream house for Catherine and himself. He wanted a comfortable place where his children and their families could gather and have a good time. His grandchildren have fond memories of bike rides with Grandpa around Fort Morgan and of playing pool, Bingo and other games to win money from him. Ed enjoyed buying strings of lottery tickets to hand out a Christmas time. With great attention to detail, Ed worked tirelessly at any job. He also took great pride in his town and community. He served on the Fort Morgan Fire Department from 1956 until 1977; he was fire chief one term. For 13 years he was a volunteer driver for the Morgan County Ambulance Service. He enjoyed bowling on the Fire Department's team until a heart attack in 1986, In 1998 he suffered a massive stroke. From that time until his death, Catherine cared for him at home. He peacefully went to heaven on November 24, 2007 with family members at his bedside.

Ed is survived by his wife of 58 years, Catherine, his brother Richard Zwetzig of Arvada, two daughters and their husbands, Rose and Roger Thompson of Eaton, Pat and Steve Baker of Last chance, son and daughter-in-law Jim and Kim Zwetzig of Fort Morgan, and son David Zwetzig of Wickenburg, Arizona, grandchildren, Brent Thompson, Allisa Woodworth, Joe Baker, Deanna Schrock, Ken Baker, Amanda Weisensee, Mike Zwetzig, Jill Broce and Tony Zwetzig, great grandchildren, Tanner Baker, Tate, Cora and Raeya Schrock, Isaiah Broce and Keegan Zwetzig.
