This evening, shortly after 6pm, a hero left this world and went to join his Heavenly Father and family that has passed before him. Bryon Clarke Bowen passed peacefully and comfortably, surrounded by his family at Renown Regional Medical Center in Reno, NV.
He was such a great father and friend to all who knew him. He touched so many lives. He was a selfless person, through and through. His last act of selflessness is the donation of his organs. His son, Charles put it best: "This man who gave the shirt off his back on several occasions, now, without hesitation will happily pass the last of his body on to those who need it most." Bryon was given an "Honor Walk" by the staff of the hospital to honor his heroic decision, and it was such a special moment for our family.
We were able to spend his last days with him and will always remember the kindness and concern he showed for everyone else, including the hospital staff even though he was suffering. That is just how he was.
Bryon battled a disease for the past several years that went undiagnosed. Despite the multiple attempts by his wife and family to get a diagnosis, the disease took away the use of his arms and legs, and progressed to his ability to breathe and swallow. He was ultimately diagnosed with a lower motor neuron disease during his time in the hospital.
We are so grateful to the medical team that cared for him in his final days and hours. They made this transition easier for us. And also very appreciative of everyone that helped out or sent prayers and positive thoughts our way. They were felt by all of us.
We would love to hear any fond memories or see any pictures you have of Bryon. A memorial service will be announced in the future, but will probably be a few weeks away to allow for family to be here. Thank you
