Earl Ernest Barrier was born December 23, 1885 on the farm northwest of Eureka, Kansas, son of Robert Lindsay Barrier and Elizabeth Stewart Barrier.
When he was eight years old his family moved to Fulton, Missouri, where he attended a county school. In 1901 the family moved back to Eureka.
At the age of 19 he enlisted in the US Army, 2nd infantry regiment, Company M from April 29, 1905 and was discharged January 12, 1909.
On September 22, 1910, he married Ernestine Claydean Briggs in Wichita, Kansas. They are the parents of four children: Clinton Oscar 6 May 1912 Wichita, Denzel Fern 23 November 1915 Wichita, Virgil Wayne 16 November 1917 Wichita, Norma Jean 13 February 1927 in Eureka.
Earl died June 10, 1961, at Eureka and is buried in the Greenwood Cemetery.
Ernestine died February 1973 at Eureka and is buried next to her husband in Greenwood Cemetery.
