He was born November 2, 1935 in St. Martin, Ohio, son of the late John Daniel Maher and Mary Cresenthia Cordy Maher.
A U.S. Navy veteran, Earl was a member and past Commander of the Wilmington American Legion Post #49. He was proud to be a founding member of the Post #49 Honor Guard, of which he was a member for 30 years.
Earl was also a member of St. Columbkille Catholic Church and had retired from Cincinnati Milicron.
Surviving is his wife, Norma Maher, whom he married November 28, 1959; daughter, Theresa Hensley; and four sons, John (Joanne) Maher, Robert Maher, Adam Rosenwirth and Branson Rosenwirth. Also surviving are two grandchildren, Jeremy Rosenwirth and Amber (Brad) Courson; as well as seven great-grandchildren, Cainen, Braiden, Destiny, Justice, Madi, Ryker and Axel. Other family members include his sisters, Roseann Cordrey and Marge Rankin; brother, Whitey Maher; several nieces and nephews; and his beloved dogs, Mira and Abbie.
In addition to his parents, Earl was preceded in death by a grandson, Justin Rosenwirth; two sisters, Ellen Walker and Kate Pfeffer; and three brothers, John Maher, Donald Maher and Ray Maher.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Columbkille Catholic Church on Thursday, September 2, 2021 at 10:30 a.m. with Rev. Michael Holloran officiating. Interment will follow in the Sugar Grove Cemetery, where the Wilmington American Legion Post #49 Honor Guard will conduct full military honors.
Friends will be received at the Wilmington American Legion Post #49, 140 E. Locust St., Wilmington, from 5-8 p.m. Wednesday, September 1, 2021.
