CARLINVILLE - Roy Glenn Skeen, 79, of Carlinville passed away at 7:49 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 28, 2007, at his home.

He was born April 21, 1928, in Alton, the second son of Harry Glenn and Caroline Emelia (Sahner) Skeen. He married Arlene Palsen (Keyes) on Aug. 29, 2002, in Carlinville.

He was preceded in death by his parents; first wife, Ida Mae (Rinehart) of Carlinville; second wife, Marilyn J. Bomkamp (Walden) of Carlinville; grandson, Boone Bomkamp of Jacksonville; and sister, Rita Callais (Skeen) of McAllister, Okla.

He served in the U.S. Navy in 1946-47, was employed at Kauerauf Lumber and C.R. Murphy Lumber, retiring in 1978. Roy, along with Ida Mae, was an integral key in establishing the Macoupin County Association for Retarded Children in 1958. He was a member of Ss. Mary and Joseph Church, was in its choir and was a volunteer. He was a Boy Scout leader, a licensed Taxidermist, member of the American Legion, an alderman of the city council and loved to hunt, fish and bowl.

Surviving are his wife, Arlene; son, David M. Skeen of Jacksonville; daughters, Diane Hillig and Danita Welte (David) of Carlinville, Denise Carty (John) of Standard City and Deb Beard of Springfield; sons, Todd Bomkamp (companion, Jamie) of Carlinville, Craig Bomkamp (companion, Myrna) of Standard City, Brian Bomkamp (Teresa) of Clayton, Mo., Matthew Palsen (Lori) of Carlinville, Peter Palsen (Laurie) of Stamford, Conn., Philip Palsen (Erika) of Springfield and David Palsen (Kathy) of Grayslake; daughter, Nichole Palsen of Carlinville; brother, Richard Skeen (Faye) of Gladwin, Mich.; 20 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Visitation is from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday, Nov. 30, 2007, at Ss. Mary and Joseph Catholic Church in Carlinville with the rosary at 3:45 p.m. Funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 1, 2007, at Ss. Mary and Joseph Catholic Church with Father George Morelock officiating. Burial will be in Prairie Lawn Cemetery in Carlinville.
