KITCHEL, NAOMI DOUGLAS Born August 18, 1907 in Santa Barbara, Ca., daughter of Edith Margaret Bell Douglas and Walter Douglas a mining and railroad executive. She moved to Warren, Ariz., that year. She traveled extensively with her father. She was educated at Chapin and the Student Art League in New York City; Stanford University. She was married April 22, 1941 to Denison Kitchel, attorney, who predeceased her. She spent most of her life in Arizona caring for her family and community. She loved the outdoors and was an exceptional artist and tennis player. She served on the Boards of The Desert Botanical Garden, The George Washington Fredricksberg Foundation (formerly the Kenmore Foundation), The Saint Luke ' s Board of Visitors, Chairing the 1951 Saint Luke ' s Ball, First woman Trustee of the Phoenix Art Museum, member Arizona Artist Guild Founder of the Arizona Costume Institute, Early Chairperson of the Arizona Recording for the Blind, First Chairperson of Planned Parenthood, Phoenix League, Member Governming Board of the Friends of Mexican Art, Member Governing Board of Western Art Associates, Trustee, Arizona Historical Society Board of English Speaking Union, Member of the National Republican Women Committee and she was a member of The Colony Club, Paradise Valley Country Club and the La Jolla Beach and Tennis Club. Her two sons, James of Scottsdale and Harvey of Jamul, Ca., and their wives Faye and Juana, and four grandchildren, Denison, Carolyn, Cynthia, and Wendy, survive her. Private service will be held.
