Shirley Mae Vivrett of Longmont passed away after battling long term illness on November 23, 2007.

Shirley was born December 6, 1937 to Charles and Sarah Smalley in the town of Shirley, Indiana. She was one of 13 children. The family farmed in Indiana until after Charles passing when the family relocated to Plant City, Florida. Shirley attended school in Indiana and in 1954 she followed her sister to Key West, Florida.

She met Arlen Wilbur Ward. He was stationed in the Navy there. They married in 1954 and together they had 5 children- Ernie, Patricia, Susan, Kathy and Leonard. The family resided in Laramie, Wyoming until 1964 when Arlen passed away.

Eight years later Shirley married Gideon Vivrett and gave birth to Julianne in 1973. Gideon later succumbed to cancer.

For the most part she raised 6 children independently, holding many jobs to support her family. She resided in Plant City, Florida until 1990 when she and Julie moved back to Laramie. She and Julie operated a home day care I Laramie, caring for many children of working parents in Laramie as well as for her own grandchildren. In 1995, having graduated the last of her children form high school she retired and moved to Longmont, Colorado to be closer to her children and escape the harsh Laramie winters.

Her family was her life. While raising her children Shirley instilled in them a sense of morality, work ethic, family and religion. She enjoyed visiting with her children and grandchildren and was an integral part of their lives.

Shirley loved to bake and she was an expert at knitting, crocheting and sewing, having made many blankets, afghans and even clothes for her children and grandchildren throughout the years. She also read incessantly and was a genius when it came to cross word puzzles.

She was preceded in death by her husbands, her parents, 11 brothers and sisters and one son Ernest Carol Ward of Livermore, Colorado.

Shirley is survived by one brother- Doug Smalley of Lucedale, Mississippi; a daughter and husband Susan and Steve Purcell of Longmont, a daughter Patricia Ferguson of Eagle, a daughter and husband Kathy and Russ Austin of Laramie, a daughter and husband Julianne and Jason Eickbush of Laramie, and a son and wife Leonard and Mary Ward of Lakeland, Florida; grandchildren, Alaina Kathleen Ferguson, Michelle Purcell, Jennifer and Andy Price, Stephen Purcell, Dominique and Brad Jones, Ian Austin, Laurel Austin, Andy Ward, Tyler Ward, Jennalee, Tristan and Spencer Eickbush. She also has great grandchildren Abigail, Clayton, Austin, Shayden and Taelea Mae, as well as many nieces and nephews. She will be greatly missed by all.

Funeral services will be at 1:30pm Thursday, Nov. 29, 2007 at the Ahlberg Funeral Chapel, Pastor Leonard Ward officiating.

Interment at Foothills Gardens of Memory.
