Dr. Douglas "Dan" Hogan III, 52, Kokomo, died Sunday, Nov. 25, 2007, at I.U. Medical Center, Indianapolis. He was born Sept. 28, 1955, in Kokomo, to Douglas Daniel Hogan Jr. and Melva Jean Johnson. On June 7, 1997, he married Nancy J. Marshall.

Dan had a Ph.D. in education and was employed as principal of Maple Crest Middle School.

He was a member and past president of the Neil Marshall Alumni Association Indiana University, past president of the Kokomo City Council, served as District 3 councilman, Kokomo Housing Authority, Advisory of Indiana University Alumni Association, Kokomo Civic Theatre, county councilman and many others throughout his illustrious life and career.

He is survived by his wife, Nancy J. Marshall, Kokomo; mother and stepfather, Melva Jean and DeVaughn Penick, Panama City, Fla.; daughter and son, Catherine and Thomas Hogan, Kokomo; daughter and son-in-law, Elisabeth and Greg Franklin, West Lafayette; sons, Nicholas Hanssens, Boston, Patrick Hanssens, Chicago, Benjamin Hanssens, Kokomo; granddaughter, Emilie Franklin, West Lafayette; brother, Brian Hogan, Kokomo; sisters, Ahronda and husband Tim James, and Drasadria Hogan, all of Kokomo; and several nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins.

Dan was preceded in death by his father, Douglas Daniel Hogan Jr.

Services are 11 a.m. Thursday at Ellers Mortuary Webster Street Chapel, 3400 S. Webster St., with friends and family participating in the funeral. Cremation will take place after the service.

Friends may call 3 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home. Donations for a college fund for Catherine and Thomas Hogan may be made in lieu of flowers. Donations may be made at Ellers Mortuary.
