Betty Ann Cauble Ferbrache Vestal

Betty Ann Vestal was born April 27, 1929 in Danville, Virginia. She was adopted at ten-days old by John D. and Minnie Lee Cauble.

The family moved to Denver, Colorado and Betty resided there and in Aurora, Colorado until her early teens when she moved to Portland, Oregon with her divorced adoptive mother. Adoptive father, John, remarried and moved to Lithia Springs, Georgia with his new family.

Betty's mother, Minnie Lee, remarried several times which led to Betty attending nine different schools before graduating from Lincoln High School in Portland in 1947.

Betty met Everett Ferbrache in the spring of 1945 upon his return from Army duties in the South Pacific theater. In spite of a ten-year age difference, a long-lasting romance ensued and they were married in Portland in June 1947, two weeks after Betty graduated from high school. The couple was married for 45 years, raising four children together: Adrian, Wade (deceased 1973,) Crystal (deceased in infancy,) and Paul.

Everett passed away in December 1992 after a long illness with emphysema. Betty remarried in 2001 to William Vestal, the widowed father of a close friend. William died in September 2015.

Betty is survived by Adrian Ferbrache (Laurey,) Paul Ferbrache (Ruth,) grandson, James E, great-grandson Stephen. Another grandson, Paul, preceded her in death due to a trucking accident at age 23.

Betty had a busy and happy life. She was a retired medical secretary and medical accounting specialist. She worked with various youth organizations when her boys were older as well as a volunteer driver for the Red Cross. Betty was a volunteer ombudsman for Oregon Nursing Homes. Her hobbies included square dancing, church affairs, bowling and traveling.

Betty moved to Stonybrook Retirement Facility of Corvallis in September 2016 to be near family. She was a long-time member of Christ United Methodist Church in Portland.

Betty will be laid to rest at Willamette National Cemetery in Portland alongside her husband, William. In lieu of flowers, donations made me made to the Oregon Humane Society or Christ Church in Portland.
