Barnardsville - Charles E. Ball, 78, of 44 Poverty Branch Road, died Saturday, Sept. 11, 2004, at his home.

Mr. Ball was born on Dec. 1, 1925, in Buncombe County, where he had lived all of his life. After leaving school he participated in building the Blue Ridge Parkway. He retired from Bruner and Lay. Mr. Ball was an avid gardener. He was the son of the late Hobart and Ruth Maynor Ball.

Surviving are his wife, Aveline Hogan Ball; daughters, Denise Ball Lindquist of Oxford, Ala., Charlene Ball Bailey of Vacaville, Calif. and Brenda Ball of Hickory; son, Eddie Ball of Barnardsville; sister, Genell Ball Ledford of Weaverville; brother, T.L. Ball of Barnardsville; grandchildren, Andrea Bailey, David Bailey, Tracy Ray, Kimberly Abernathy and Tommy Newman; and great-grandson, Dylan Ray.

A graveside service will be held at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday in Ashelawn Gardens of Memory with the Rev. Dr. Tom Evans officiating.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at West Funeral Home, 17 Merrimon Ave., Weaverville. At other times the family will be at the residence.

Memorials may be made to the Barnardsville Volunteer Fire Department, P.O. Box 126, Barnardsville, NC 28709.
