Jimmy married Betty Lou Cunningham in 1953 and she preceded him in death on August 16, 2003, just a few months before their 50th wedding anniversary. Jimmy retired from General Motors in 1982 after 30 years of service. After retirement, Jimmy and Betty were snowbirds in Leesburg, FL where he enjoyed fishing, shuffleboard and playing cards. They spent the summers in Harrison, MI where they enjoyed camping with family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Bill and Lallie Abney; his wife, Betty Lou Abney; 2 sons, Paul Abney and David Abney; daughter, Robin Abney; 2 siblings, Danny Abney and Douglas "Duck" Abney.
