Born October 23, 1961 in Cleveland, Ohio, he was the son of James (Jim) Doud Sr. of Cleveland, Ohio and the late Wanda Darlyne Gustafson. He was a 1980 graduate of Richlands High School and was retired as Sergeant 1st Class from the National Guard 1032nd Transportation Unit of Gate City, Va., with 28 years of service. He served in Iraq for 1 year during his National Guard tenure. Jim enjoyed working with the HOFNOD Program and the DARE Program in the Southwest Virginia area.
In addition to his father he is survived by his wife of 17 years, Melissa Marlene Doud; three daughters, Hope Alicia Nicole Doud Stone of Cedar Bluff, Takeysha Shyanne Doud and Brittany Nichole Doud, both of the home; two sons, James Arron Matthew Doud and Jeremy Lee Doud, both of the home; his stepmother, Brenda K. Doud of Cleveland, Ohio; two grandchildren, Clyde Michael Clifton Stone and Rachael Nicole Faith Stone; three brothers, Tim Doud and wife Polly of Richlands, Bryan Doud of Cleveland, Ohio, and Michael Doud of Connecticut; three sisters, Annemarie Hayest and husband Greg of Medina, Ohio, Millie Bowen of Cleveland, Ohio, and Debbie Gilley and husband Pete of Rural Retreat; several nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, December 2, 2007 at Singleton Funeral Service Chapel at Cedar Bluff, Va., with Brother Bobby and Sister Shelia Stanley officiating. Burial will follow in the Greenhills Memory Gardens at Claypool Hill, Va.
Pallbearers will be members of the National Guard. Honorary pallbearers will be Mr. French, Eddie Reazor, Sergeant Muse, Jamie Cantrell and members of the National Guard. Military graveside rites will be conducted by the Virginia National Guard Honors Team.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 9 p.m. Saturday at Singleton Funeral Service at Cedar Bluff, Va.
