Melvin was born October 2, 1937, to the late Benjamin and Josephine (Thuecks) Faust on the family homestead. He attended SS. Peter and Paul Grade School and graduated from Kiel High School in 1956. He proudly served his country in the United States Army while stationed in Korea. On September 1, 1962, he married the former Germaine "Molly" Kornetzke. The couple just celebrated their 59th wedding anniversary. Melvin was employed by Tecumseh for 40 years before retiring in 2000.
He was a lifetime member of SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, a member of the Knights of Columbus, the Men's Holy Name Society and ushered for church services. He was also employed by the City of Kiel, cutting grass at the city cemetery and working at the Keller Community Drop Off Site "The Wal-Mart of Kiel".
Melvin looked forward to his days fishing with his friend, Steve on their private lake, gardening and canning. He also enjoying building with his hands and helping his children with various projects. He was a great supervisor.
He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Molly; four children: Rose Faust, Tim (Pat) Faust, Tom Faust and Matt (Stacey) Faust; his grandchildren, Taran Reeb-Slimmer, Kaylin Reeb, Madelyn and Julian Faust, Connor and Courtney Faust; his great-grandchildren, Dominic, Alaina, Kieya, Aiden and Everlee. Melvin is further survived by his sisters: Isabel Kienbaum, Leona Sobiech and Florence Walsdorf; brother-in-law: Hugo Hartmann, sisters-in-law, Beatrice Lisowe, Gladys Kornetzke, Mary Lou Kornetzke and Jean Kornetzke; his neighbors and lifelong friends, John and Paula Mahloch; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers: Gilbert, Elmer, Lester and Edwin; sisters: Caroline (Roger) Noworatzky, LaVerne Faust and Delores Hartmann; brothers-in-law: Lawrence Sobiech, Charlie Walsdorf, Willard Kienbaum, Howie Lisowe, Gordon Kornetzke and Larry Kornetzke.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, September 20, 2021, at 11 am, at SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church (423 Fremont Street, Kiel). Interment will follow at the church cemetery
The family will greet relatives and friends at church on Monday, from 9:00 am until 10:45 am.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff of Willowdale, Calumet County Home Health and Hospice, especially his nurses, Gina, Rebecca and Nikki and the staff of Greenfield Therapy for the care given to Melvin in the past few months.
