JAMESTOWN - Graveside services for John D. Hiett, 77, will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 18, 2021, at Hillcrest in Gallup.
Hiett died April 10. 2021, in Albuquerque. He was born Dec. 27, 1943, in Anchorage, Alaska.
Hiett was a cowboy, plumber, forester, avid hunter, and lover of animals. He was a creator of specialty knives and beautiful leather work, and a faithful driver for the McKinley County Humane Society. He served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War.
Survivors include his sister Ginger Lee Chaffins.
Hiett was preceded in death by his parents, Roy H. Hiett and Elizabeth Casey Hiett, and wife Marilyn Doiron Scott Hiett, of Jamestown.

John D. Hiett was born to Roy H. Hiett and Elizabeth Casey Hiett on December 27, 1943 in Anchorage, Alaska. He died at the V.A. Hospital in Albuquerque, New Mexico on April 10, 2021.
John was a cowboy, a plumber, a forester, an avid hunter and a lover of animals. He did beautiful leather work and made custom-designed knives. He was a man of many talents which he used to benefit others. He enjoyed helping the McKinley Humane Society, he was their faithful driver transporting critters to no-kill shelters so they could find their forever homes. John also served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War.
John was preceded in death by his beloved pardner (sic), the love of his life, Marilyn Doiron Scott Hiett.
He is survived by his sister, Ginger Chaffins of Jamestown, New Mexico and his nephew Curt Chaffins, his wife and two children of Indio, California. He is also survived by a former wife and her two daughters, Diana and Deborah in the Pacific Northwest.
We will miss his way with words, his smile and the mischievous glint in his eyes.
