Ray R. Collett, 88, of San Diego, Calif., died Tuesday, Jan. 3, 2006.
Ray was a devoted family man, dedicated member of the church and successful businessman. He was a graduate of Tri-State University in Indiana. Ray had a lifelong thirst for knowledge and never stopped learning.
In World War II, Mr. Collett proudly served in the Army Corps of Engineers, assigned to North Africa and the European theatre of operations. In the years after the war, Ray worked in the oil industry and later, for US Steel. He and his wife, Berdine, moved to San Diego following their marriage in 1953. Ray began his career there in the automotive industry, which ultimately spanned over 30 years. Mr. Collett was a deacon in his church for many years and was also a Freemason and a Shriner. He will be remembered as a loving father and dedicated partner to his wife.
Surviving are his wife of 53 years, Berdine Banks Collett, who was his loving and constant companion; a daughter, Pamela Dubiel of La Mesa, Calif., and her two children, Garrett and Dakota; son, John Collett and his wife, Mary Ellen of London, England, and their two children, Julian and Molly; sisters, Katherine and Corinne of Pittsburgh, Pa.
The funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Monday in the chapel of West Funeral Home, 17 Merrimon Ave., Weaverville, with the Rev. Jack Roberts officiating. Entombment will be in Ashelawn Gardens of Memory.
