Laura Marguerite Carter, born 6 October 1895 at Butte, Montana to Stewart Alexander Carter and Greta Johanna "Margaret" Adamsdotter Aittamaa, was an allied member of John and Betty More's Alexander line. She was raised at Butte and at Woonsocket, Rhode Island where her father was a furniture teamster. They relocated to New York about 1902 and to Reno, Nevada about 1904 where her father was associated with Bank saloon. About 1910, Laura and her brother relocated with their mother to Woonsocket, Rhode Island where her mother seems to have been the proprietor of a boarding house. Laura married to George Jay Gould Jr. on 7 July 1917 at Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and they made their home first at Franklin, Pennsylvania. They relocated to Manhattan, New York about 1920 where her husband was studying law. In January 1923 she had a residence in Hotel Roblin at Chauweau, Jagarde, Paris and in July 1923 she and George divorced in Nice, France. Laura married next to Roy Charles Crowden on 24 December 1927 at Chelsea, England. In 1935, they had a residence at Capri, Italy and, in 1940, she was divorced and residing at New York City, New York. In 1941, Laura had a residence at Waterford, Connecticut and, in 1964, she had a residence at Washington, District of Columbia. Laura died at that place in January 1977. Her remains were cremated and scattered off the Nantucket coast at Massachusetts. Laura and George were the parents of two children, George Jay Gould III and Maughan Carter Gould.
