Fort Collins, Colorado - Martha June Miller Brown was born on October 18, 1934 in Jacksonville, FL and passed away August 27, 2021 in Fort Collins, CO at the age of 86. "Marty" grew up in Macon, GA where she married Frank Douglas Brown of Leadville, CO on April 13, 1968. Doug and Marty met in the lift line while skiing at Squaw Valley, CA. For over 53 years they brightened each other's lives. She will be deeply missed by her family and many friends.
Marty is preceded in death by her parents, Laurel Armstrong and James Robert Miller, Sr., and her brother, James Robert Miller, Jr. Surviving her are her husband, Doug; a brother, Donald Kay (Frances) Miller of Macon, GA; her children; Jeffrey (Brandy) Brown and Jenny (Chris) Wright, both of Fort Collins, CO; granddaughters; Anna Grace and Ava Jane Wright of Fort Collins, CO. Marty was a loving aunt to nieces; Donna Kay (Phil) McGoldrick, Dee Ann Geeslin, Paula (John) Pratt, Erika (Kevin)Watkins, Laurel Walker; nephews; Rob Miller, Kirk Miller, Jimmy (Sissy) Miller and numerous great-nieces and nephews. In terms of education she was a teacher with an academic trail of coursework at Miller High School and Mercer University in Macon, GA; Mars Hill College in North Carolina; Baylor University in Waco, TX (BA degree); Carver School of Social Work in Kentucky; and UC Berkeley, CA. She taught at elementary schools in Moraga, CA, and Denver, CO. Other highlights of her work life were as a civilian activities director for the Army Special Services in Heidelberg, Germany and Activities Director at Fresno State University.
Music was a big part of Marty's life, especially classical music. She loved to play the piano and attended operas performed in Europe. She was a passionate and accomplished gardener and she seldom missed an opportunity to plant flowering plants and bulbs or remove a pesky weed in her or anyone else's garden. Marty delighted in traveling far throughout the world with her family. She will always be remembered for her adventurous spirit and the loving care she displayed in all her relationships. Many will remember her as the little old lady who dashed back and forth to Costco, Trader Joe's and Tuesday Morning in her bright red 2000 Volvo C70 convertible.
We (especially her granddaughters; Anna Grace and Ava Jane Wright), will all miss our "Nanny." A Celebration of Life will be held in the future as Covid-19 restrictions allow. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to Pathways Hospice of Fort Collins, Tourette Association of America or the American Cancer Society.
