Robert "Bob" age 86, went forward to a new life surrounded by his family at his home. Bob was born in Gaston County on March 22, 1935 to the late Clifford Hearshel and Eula Belle Fields.
Those left who will miss him daily include his wife of 62 years, Virginia Doris Fields, 2 sons, Todd Wayne Fields (Dawn) and Tony Wade Fields (Tammy). He is also survived by grandchildren, Haley Dawn Fields, Kinley Todd Morrison (Ryan), David Walker (Aimee) and great grandchildren, Hazel Todd Morrison, Austin, Everly, Savanna, and Solomon Walker.
Bob was a proud veteran having enlisted in the Navy in 1952, serving for 4 years and went on to join the Army for 5 years, where he was a member of the 82nd Airborne Recognizance Rangers. Bob went on to be very successful at managing textile engineering across the US and abroad until he retired. After suffering a stroke a short time later, Bob continued to live an active life and became a jigsaw aficionado turning many of his puzzles into memorable works of art. Bob loved spending time with his family, fiddling around in his workshop, being by Lake Wylie and spending time at one of his favorite camping spots, Woods Ferry in South Carolina. Bob was a member of the Masonic Lodge #369 in Gastonia, NC.
A graveside service will be held at 11:00am, Monday at Arrowood Baptist Church Cemetery, 6417 Dallas-Cherryville Hwy(Hwy 279) in Bessemer City and will be officiated by Rev. Hinkle Rayfield.
